I Was 30 and Convinced I Was Behind in Life
I was 30 and convinced I was behind in life.
I remember looking around at other people and feeling like they were all doing adulthood better than me.
People seemed to have their careers sorted. They had houses. Relationships. Money. Confidence.
And I felt like I was somehow getting it wrong.
Who Made These Rules Anyway?
I think I’d absorbed all these invisible rules about what life was supposed to look like.
By 30, you should have a career. You should have money. You should own a house. You should be settled. You should know who you are and where you’re going.
And if you haven’t ticked those boxes, you’re behind.
But who actually made those rules?
Looking back now, I can see how ridiculous it was to compare my life to someone else’s timeline.
Because there isn’t one.
Your Life Doesn’t Have to Follow Someone Else’s Timeline
I’ve changed direction so many times. I’ve started again. I’ve taken some massive risks. I’ve made mistakes. I’ve changed my mind.
I’ve followed things that felt right, even when they didn’t make sense to everyone else.
And I’m still doing it. 😂
My life looks absolutely nothing like I thought it would when I was 30.
And I’m so glad it doesn’t.
Because if I’d followed the timeline I thought I was supposed to follow, I might never have become the person I am now.
Some of the biggest changes in my life came from taking a different route.
Not necessarily the safe route. Not necessarily the route other people understood. Just the route that felt right for me at the time.
You Are Not Behind
So if you’re looking around at other people and thinking you’re behind, I want you to hear this:
You’re not behind. You’re not late. You’re not failing. You don’t need to have it all figured out.
Your life isn’t a race. There is no deadline for becoming yourself.
You can start again at 30. Or 40. Or 50. Or whenever the hell you decide. 😂💜
You can change your mind. You can change direction. You can decide that the life you thought you wanted isn’t actually the life you want anymore.
That’s not failure. That’s being human.
Maybe the problem isn’t that you’re behind. Maybe you’re just comparing your life to a timeline that was never yours in the first place.
Maybe you’re not behind. Maybe you’re just becoming you. 💜
