I am Melissa Canavan, a nurse, coach, healer, author, and facilitator dedicated to supporting perimenopausal women in navigating this transformative phase with confidence, clarity, and balance.
Perimenopause is the transitional period before menopause where you may begin having menopause-like symptoms, such as hot flushes or irregular periods. Perimenopause can start in the late 30’s for some women and it can last for years, it ends when you go a full 12 months without a period.
With over 20 years of experience in the NHS and 17 years as a qualified nurse, my journey has evolved from respiratory medicine to holistic wellness, coaching, and facilitation. I am also the mother of two teenagers, a puppy and run my own business so I know how difficult life can get at times.
A Passion for Well-being and Transformation
Throughout my career in Primary Care, I developed a deep passion for improving patient care and empowering individuals to take control of their well-being. As a co-founder of the Leeds Respiratory Network and the driving force behind Respiratory Care Solutions, I’ve led initiatives that standardise care, supported professional development, and enhanced patient outcomes. Now, my focus is on helping women like you rediscover vitality, resilience, and purpose.
Coaching, Mentorship, and Holistic Healing
I hold an ILM Level 5 qualification in coaching and mentoring, as well as a health coaching certification. My coaching programs are designed to address the unique challenges of perimenopause, offering both one-on-one and group sessions on stress management, resilience, and overall wellness.
I’ve created a four-week well-being course aimed at boosting self-confidence and enhancing quality of life, providing practical tools and techniques to help you navigate this transitional phase with ease.
Mindfulness, Reiki, and Spiritual Well-being
As a practicing Buddhist for over 20 years, mindfulness, meditation, and compassion are integral to my approach. I also hold a Level 2 Reiki certification, allowing me to incorporate energy healing into my practice for a truly holistic experience. These elements work together to support emotional balance, mental clarity, and inner peace.

My book, Looking After Me, reflects my commitment to guiding others toward self-care, empowerment, and personal growth. It offers insights and strategies for managing well-being during life’s transitions, particularly for women experiencing perimenopause.
Firewalking: Empowering You to Step Beyond Fear
In addition to my holistic wellness work, I am also a certified firewalking instructor. Through the powerful experience of walking barefoot over hot coals, I guide individuals to confront their fears, push beyond perceived limits, and build inner strength. This unique practice can be a transformative experience, offering an empowering metaphor for stepping into your own power during perimenopause and beyond.
