The Chapter Nobody Saw Coming: Debt, Risk & Resilience

The Chapter Nobody Saw Coming

I thought following my dreams would look very different. 😂😬

When I left the social enterprise, I genuinely trusted that things would work out.

I had no idea how financially difficult the next chapter was going to become.

I’d never been in debt before.

But I was trying to build a completely new business from scratch, and that meant investing in myself.

A website. Courses. Training. Business support. Learning new things. Trying things that I hoped would move me forward.

And because I wasn’t earning enough to cover the business and household bills, the money had to come from somewhere.

Eventually, I found myself with around £30,000 of debt.

Credit cards. A loan. And two tax payment plans from the previous year.

At one point, I was genuinely worried I might lose my house.

The People Who Believed in Me

Someone even lent me £20,000 because they believed in me and trusted me.

I’ll never forget that.

My family and friends were worried about me too, and I completely understood why.

From the outside, I’m sure it was difficult to understand why I was continuing to take risks when things were already financially difficult.

But I still believed I was going to be okay.

Sometimes You Have to Do What You Need to Do

At the beginning of this year, I made another decision.

I got a job for two days a week.

After being an entrepreneur since 2016, I could have seen that as a failure.

I didn’t.

I saw it as another step towards where I wanted to go.

I needed the paperwork from employment so that I could eventually remortgage my house.

So I did what I needed to do.

And eventually, I managed to remortgage.

It hasn’t magically solved everything.

But it has given me some breathing space.

And, most importantly, I’ve kept going.

And Then There Was Jen 💜

Somewhere along the way, I met Jen, my remortgage advisor.

We’d never met before we started working together, but somehow we just clicked.

She’s spiritual, we’re very much on the same wavelength, and our conversations quickly became about everything and anything rather than just mortgages. 😂

Somehow, we’d become friends.

Then we discovered we were both going to the same festival in Malta. 💃☀️

So after talking for months, we finally got to meet.

And it was exactly as lovely as I’d hoped. 💜

I absolutely love how people can come into your life at exactly the right time.

Sometimes the people who help you through the hardest chapters become part of the story themselves.

What This Chapter Has Taught Me

This chapter has taught me that taking a risk doesn’t mean everything will be easy.

Trusting the process doesn’t mean you don’t have to take practical steps.

And asking for help doesn’t mean you’ve failed.

Sometimes you just have to do whatever you need to do to keep moving forward.

But there’s another lesson I want to be really honest about.

I wouldn’t recommend doing what I did financially. 😂

If you’re building a dream, I’d definitely recommend having savings, another income or a part‑time job alongside it if you can.

You don’t have to struggle to prove that you believe in your dream.

Believing in yourself and being financially responsible can exist at the same time.

I’m Still Building the Dream

I’m still building mine. Still learning. Still investing in myself. Still figuring things out.

And I still don’t know exactly how the next chapter is going to unfold.

But I’m okay with that.

I don’t need to know the whole path.

I just need to take the next step.

Because if there’s one thing these last few years have taught me, it’s that I can handle the next step. 💜

And sometimes that’s enough. 🙏🏻
